Cylinder Jumping at the Gym

Room 22 went to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics every Wednesday for a few weeks. For this activity we had to be able to jump very high with straight legs off the beat board and land inside the cylinder. This skill is really hard because you have to be able to jump high and at the right distance. I scored a high of 4 in my test and a low of 3 in handstands.

Cartweeling over the box!

For the past few weeks we have been going to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics every Wednesday. One of the stations was cartwheeling over the box. This requires balance and speed because if you go slow you will have to have good control. We were scored for some of the skills including the skill in the picture The best you could get is a 4, and I got all 4s!!!!
Overall I had a great time, I hope it is as good next year!

beam balence

For this skill you need balance and concentration.
You need to bend your knees,  lean forward and
watch the ball then chuck it back hard and hope
they can't catch it. For each activity you get a mark.
My highest was 4+ my lowest was 4-. Emily

Alex's Big Jump

This is me 5 seconds after jumping off a Beat-Board onto a box.
A technique needed to do this is being able to jump high.
My highest score was 4- and my lowest was 3-.

Oli's Gym reflectiom

This is me jumping into a cylinder. For this you need to jump up
and forward a little as well as keeping your legs up,
until you land of course. We got marked on this and lots of
other things but the best score you could get was a 4+. My
best was a 4 which is pretty good, but my worst was a 3- and I think that is pretty bad. Oli

Alice's gym

This photo shows me jumping on to a mat. I think the skills you need are jumping skills so you don't land on your head.

Olivia's Awesome Gymnastics

This term we have been learning gym at QEII. We had five sessions and the last one was the best. The teachers were really helpful. I can't wait to do it next year to learn more skills. My favourite part was the pit. I did a flip into the pit and it was really fun. I hope we can do more flips next year!! I got six fours which was my highest score and one three minus which was my lowest score but all the rest were in between. These pictures show me using focusing skills. To do the cartwheel that I have just down in one of these photos you need to be able to balance and hold yourself up easily.

Henry Gymnastics

Village 22 and Room 8 have been going to gymnastics on Wednesdays for four weeks. In the photo on the left I am balancing a hula hoop on my arm and spinning it around and around for as long as I can. On the right Ben H and I are balancing on a beam while chucking an orange ball at someone on another beam. My scores were 3, 4, 3, 3+, 3+, 3, 3+, 4, 3, 3, 3+, 4-, 3, 4, 3-, 3+ with a total of 53+.

My Awesome Cartwheel on the Box

It was fantastic to go to the Gym!!
This is me doing a cartwheel. The skill is to balance on the box at the same time as you throw your legs in a wheel shape to the other side. This was part of the Rotation test I scored a 3+ out of 4+. I got 10 4s overall out of possible 15.

fun in the gym!

Gym was really fun. One of the most important things was balance. I really liked the bit where we got to jump over the tube. I also liked going on the trampoline, it was really fun. the main thing that helps you get over the tube is to jump as high as you can and ass far as you can. i am very happy with all my score added up its 50.

gym reflection

Gym was really fun and cool. This is me doing a forward flip. You need to have balance and jumping skills to do this. In the rotation locomotion I got a 4, 4-, 4. I am looking forward to gym next year.

We need your help

Bridget's koala and Jack's turtle need your help. They want you to help them with their art. Can you give them some suggestions for finishing off their work?

Sarah,gym

On Wednesday we had our last session of gymnastics. My favourite activity was the beam because we had to stand on the beam while throwing and catching a giant red ball.
To succeed in this activity we had to have your legs apart and be ready for the ball.
peeeww smack! I wasn't ready for that.

Calendar Art- Hope you got your order in on time.

These pictures were made using vivid markers, dyes and salt. The salt is sprinkled on wet dye and left overnight. The effect is stunning. Most children have used the salt effect for their background and some have used it to colour in coral.

Matisse's dotty crocodile

This crocodile is soon to surrounded by more dots. Watch this space to see what Matisse does to enhance his picture.

Sarah and Emily- great skills.

These two girls have worked very hard to produce these stunning turtles. They aren't finished yet so watch this blog to see what their final pieces are like.

Dotty background

This koala has been highlighted by an amazing sunrise. I can't wait to see what will be painted next.

Sunny's Turtle

Sunny has some lovely detail on his turtle but you can't see it well in this photo. You will have to visit our room to see the masterpiece.

Some more artworks for you.

Ben has cleverly placed his animal between 2 coloured backgrounds.

Aboriginal Inspired Dot Designs Art

Our latest art unit is all about colour and design. We are learning to use colour effectively by layering paint and adding dots. Here are some pieces of artwork that are on their way to looking fantastic.
