Earthquake Powerpoint

Earthquake Disaster

Houses Rumbling

Beds Shaking

Books Falling

Glass Breaking

People telling each other to calm down

You might think that it's all over... but is it

Shaking Horror

Wake-up, in bed
pull covers over my head
breaking sounds all around
shaking, rumbling from the ground
It all stops, I think gosh,
what on earth was that
The shakiest most rumbley earthquake,
Christchurch has ever had

Earthquake by Joe

One Saturday morning it was all quiet until BOOM an earthquake hit. Things were falling off shelves and out of cupboards. The noise was unbearable with the shaking. The power went out. We couldn’t see. After shocks rattled the house. This is what an earthquake is like.

Earth quake poem

Shaking buildings

things breaking

everyone frightened

blocked off roads

dogs barking

cats are missing

my sister is going mental!

Mr Norton's Boulder

Paul sent this photo to me. It is a boulder that rolled down the hill from Castle Rock. It was lucky there had been rain because the mud managed to stop it rolling into Heathcote homes. You can see how big it is when you look at the man sitting on top of it.

shake rattle and roll

sky rumbling

fear growing

power escaping

glass smashing

stop start

off on

after shocks still shaking

Earthquake

House wobbling,
Books falling,
Ground rumbling,
Fear growing as I run to the doorway
yay its over ..or is it.

Second Earthquake- Wednesday

Hi Everyone
Wow that one this morning was scary, wasn't it! Thanks for the great poems coming through. I now look forward to opening up my emails. We have 3 poems so far. I wonder if we will get 28 before we meet at school again. Unfortunately we are now behind with our reductive printmaking. I hope we can get an extension on our deadline for the calendar art. We can't rush this type of art. If you are bored you might like to look at some of these activities.

bbc.co.uk- check out the English site. There are many games there that will help you with punctuation, writing sentences etc

Keep the poetry going. Try to create an image in the mind of the reader. Use simile, personification or compare the earthquake to something else.

Practice recalling your times tables quickly. Search for some games to help you.

If you have garageband you could make a soundscape to play when you read your poetry.

If you have powerpoint you could find some images to back your poem. Some programmes allow you to have photos fade in and out with the text in front. Have a play with animating the text. Bring the poem in line for line.

If you have any other ideas please post them in our blog for others to see.
Take care
Sue
Surprise Quake
I wake up
Its dark, but daylight outside.
Rattle, things on my draws are shaking like marbles in a glass jar.
I get under my bed, scramble quickly.
The rumble dies.
Shaking I get out from under my safe cover.

Doomsday

Earthquake
House shaking
Ground rumbling
Scared of dying
Race downstairs
Jump on Mum
Said, "we're done"
Safe and sound
Or are we...

Lucy's Earthquake Poem

Earthquake surprises us
Around us shaking
Roaring sounds
Tapping at the window
Helpless feelings
Quick run
Under the door frame
All together we are safe
Keep filling the water bottles
Earth is powerful.

Sue's Wobbly Chimney

Here is a photo of our chimney before it was pulled down yesterday, brick by brick. I'm pleased it was taken down because that aftershock last night would have certainly seen it crashing through our roof.
